[Claim] Any piece of information referred to as a fact should be mistrusted, since it may well be proven false in the future. [Reason] Much of the information that people assume is factual actually turns out to be inaccurate.

Whether the information referred to as a fact should be mistrusted because most of them turn out to be inaccurate that can be weighed in many aspects. There are much new information and fact generated by media or experts in this fast-changing society. In general, I do concede the statement that we should be skeptical of the information which we assume is factual.

Admittedly, some people will argue that once the principles or facts are found and established by scientists, there’s no need for us to impugn it. For example, the law of gravity discovered by Newton is still the fundamental of physic and being exploited until today. However, these cases are rare. People are always developing and exploring the universe, which contains much evidence to change our so-called fact.

First of all, in the scientific field, there is a long-standing view of our solar system which is comprised of a sun and nine planet. However, from the newest study in recent years, the fact of nine planet theory is challenged and changed our knowledge about the cosmic. For example, Pluto, which is the most distant and mysterious planet from the sun, is put out of the nine-planet model and perceived by astronomers to be a dwarf planet. Because of the progress and development of technology, the fact of the universe will constantly change based on the new study and finding from scientists. Therefore, we should be wary of accepting any information regarded as facts.

On the other hand, the mass media nowadays is another channel for people to absorb new information and facts, yet it will contain issues with its content. For those who only rely on the mass media to understand the events occurring around the world, they may have insufficient ability to distinguish the fact. Some contents may be partisan and not detached enough, which are easily misleading to the public. After all, the only source of information from mass media will make people provincial. Consequently, people should accept the same subject from different sources, since the sole channel can establish inaccurate facts. Moreover, it is important to cultivate ourselves to discern the facts and become sagacious to new information.

To sum up, the statement is as persuasive as it stands to some extent. Base on my exposition mentioned above, even rigorous scientific research can be toppled after several decades, and people have to accept what they have believed for such a long time is wrong eventually. Moreover, the media can create many facts that are not comprehensive enough, and people should have the ability to be discernible. Therefore, it is essential for us to be prudent to any so-called “fact.”
