Leadership comes naturally: one cannot learn to be a leader.
A leader is important in any group, who gives the direction of the future for his members. Whether leadership comes naturally with people, and one cannot learn to be a leader can be weighed in many aspects. From my perspective, I do not concur with the statement that people are born with leadership. We will discuss the reasons down below.
Admittedly, some people will hold an opinion that there are certain characteristics in a leader that can make them suitable for the position. For example, management and people skills play critical roles in leadership which helps a group work effectively. However, all human beings are callow and naive from the beginning; we all start at the same level.
First of all, it is necessary for most people to go through education before entering society because this process renders them useful and required skills to survive. For example, during university studies, students have a lot of opportunities to collaborate with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and expertise. People will nurture themselves with many soft skills such as time management, communication, and responsibility in the meeting. Moreover, they may find a role that fits their personalities in a team. Leadership will be trained when they are designated to be project leaders and implement those soft skills. Students learn from team member’s feedback and even the failure of projects. Therefore, youngsters develop leadership through numerous cooperation experience rather a born talent.
On the other hand, it is common to see the example in the commercial field that people cannot become a leader without learning and improvement. Steve Jobs, for example, the former CEO of Apple company, starts his business in the garage with friends and gradually builds up the prominent manufacturer in the market. However, he is not always a good leader that brings his employees’ minds together, and Jobs even expelled by Apple’s committee once before retaking CEO career and thriving Apple again. Through those failures, Steve Jobs learns the opportune methods and attitude to enhance the working environment and lead engineers to create extraordinary products for consumers. Consequently, people learn to be successful leaders from wrongdoings and failures, redressing their skills and attitudes.
To sum up, the statement is no as persuasive as it stands. Based on my expositions mentioned above, people learn to be a leader by educational pursuits and workplace experience, rather than naturally possess leadership.
