Workers are more satisfied when they have many different types of tasks to do during the workday than when they do similar tasks all day long.
In this generation, it is less likely that a person only possesses specific skills and conducts certain works for a whole lifetime. Whether workers are more satisfied when they have many different types of tasks rather than similar tasks all day long can be weighed in many aspects. In my opinion, I generally concur with the statement that they are will find more agreeable when doing different types of tasks. We will discuss the reason below.
Admittedly, some people hold a position that similar tasks can be enjoyable because workers have fewer risks of failure. For example, a chef in a restaurant does not need to do customer service, and he solely needs to supervise the quality of the food. However, dealing with different types of tasks during the workday has several merits.
First of all, different tasks mean that workers have to enhance their abilities and skills to handle those works. In this competitive society, it is essential for a person to have not only one skill to survive. For example, the economy suffered a slump since the outbreak of the coronavirus; many airline staffs are resigned from companies and lose their jobs immediately. Nonetheless, since cabin crews have to be versatile enough to handle various situations during the flight, they have many abilities such as customer service, first-aid medical skills, and speaking foreign languages. In this case, when facing the massive layoff in the industry, they can use other skills to find other careers because of past experience. Moreover, when dealing with different types of tasks, they will feel challenging yet progressive at the same time. Therefore, workers will benefit from having different tasks and feel satisfied to gain different skills.
On the other hand, human beings are not robots that we might find the works dull as we keep dealing with similar tasks the whole day. In this situation, it is easy for people to feel depressed and bored with their works and escape from this environment. For example, on the assembly line of smartphones, workers have a specific task on a different part of the assembly. They work on the same sedentary task all day and only have certain skills. However, people always seek challenges in their entire life and keep improving themselves to survive in the fast-changing world and obtain a sense of achievement. After all, it is our instinct to explore the unknown field. Consequently, workers will readily give up their job, feel unsatisfied, and be less competitive when dealing with similar tasks in the workplace.
To sum up, the statement is as persuasive as it stands. Based on my expositions mentioned above, workers will feel unsatisfied if they keep working on similar tasks. Instead, they are willing to challenge different tasks and benefit from it.
