In the past, young people depended too much on their parents to make decisions for them; today young people are better able to make decisions about their own lives.

Young people are less experienced in making decisions and usually will seek suggestions from others. Whether young people nowadays depend on themselves more than those in the past can be weighed in many aspects. From my perspective, I concur with the statement that youngsters are able to make decisions better for themselves than before. We will discuss the reasons below.

Admittedly, some people may hold a point that young people still heavily depend on their parents to make decisions for them because parents play an influential role in the family. For example, when deciding to study at which university, parents have a strong influence on children, and they are willing to accept decisions from experienced adults. However, with some key elements that emerge in social change, this case is declining than ever.

First of all, with the advent of the internet, people are exposed to a tremendous amount of information every second and being affected by social media. For example, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are popular among young people, and they are the primary sources for them to understand the world around them. The events happened among young people’s friend zone quickly spread through social media; they share thoughts, life, and moods on the pages and form close connections between each other. In this case, the internet foster young people to look for support from peers rather than their parents. Therefore, in this generation, young people are less dependent on their parents to make life decisions.

On the other hand, young people are easier to receive intriguing and tonic quotes or words from many channels. The prevalent social environment encourages young people to live their own lives and make themselves stand out and shine in unique ways. For example, the celebrities on the social media encourage youngsters to pursue their dreams and make young people epitomize celebrities as paradigms to follow; the cloth commercial slogan always invokes people to dress their styles and make young people purchase the products. Under so many incentives, young people gradually turn to make decisions for themselves and be more independent than ever. Consequently, people are unawarely influenced by the changing environment, and the prominent idea makes them more independent from parents.

To sum up, the statement is as persuasive as it stands. Based on my expositions mentioned above, technology helps young people receive information readily than ever and create connections with friends. Furthermore, social change also plays a dominant role in making young people decide their lives.
