Movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave.
Because of the advance of technology, films and television works have been prevalent in society among young people in this generation. Whether movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on young people’s behavior can be weighed in many aspects. From my perspective, I do not concur with the statement that those works are inimical to our youngsters.
Admittedly, some people will stand on the position that some content will affect their minds and behaviors. For example, some violent movie genre may influence young people’s minds and imitate those dangerous behaviors to reality, causing potential risks to society. However, with strict regulations to constrain certain age watch suitable content, movies and television have more positive effects among young people.
First of all, contemporary society has become more competitive and fast-changing than decades ago. The pressure from workplaces and schools makes young people exert more energy and intelligence to deal with problems. For example, engineers in energy fields have to think about how to mitigate the pollution from current powerplant facilities to slow down global warming and prevent the irreversible catastrophe. On the other hand, students in schools have to study hard to handle myriad assessments and maintain their academic performance. In these cases, movies and television provide young people channels to release their pressure from burdensome life. They do not have to think and analyze but enjoy and watch various contents, such as fantasy, romance, and action. Consequently, movies and television help young people to relax their brains moderately and keep their productivity.
On the other hand, films and television content can stimulate young people’s creativity and talent. For example, students in schools always study materials from the curriculum but do not always meet their willingness. An art-talent student may be buried by the dull materials and try to meet his teacher’s requirement. Yet, movies can help the student foster and nurture his sense of aesthetics; television will lead him to know the world thoroughly and broaden his horizons. Escaping from the pressure, students are influenced by these cultural creations and content and further stir their creativity. An art-talent student may release his potential and generate many innovative paintings and artworks. Therefore, the positive effects of video media foster youngsters’ creative development and stay away from the pressure at the same time.
To sum up, the statement is not as persuasive as it stands. Based on my exposition mentioned above, movies and television content provide a channel for releasing pressure and stimulating young people’s creativity.
