It is more important for governments to spend money to improve Internet access than to improve public transportation.

The government plays a fundamental role in every aspect of the general public’s life, from policy to huge construction. Whether it is more important for the government to spend money to improve Internet access than to improve public transportation can be weighed in many aspects. From my perspective, I concur with the statement that enhancing internet access is more worthy than another aspect.

Admittedly, some people may claim that public transportation correlates to many residents’ convenience, and improving transportation can reduce traffic jams and air pollution. However, the internet has become more preeminent than other aspects in the modern society.

First of all, people nowadays have heavily relied on the internet to achieve any goals. For example, since the invention of the internet, it has propelled the transmission of information, such as news and weather, and accelerate the implementation of smart devices. Moreover, the delivery of any source of information is through the internet. The environment has drastically changed because of the internet. If any place has an unstable internet connection, people will become kind of blind in their daily life and many activities will be forced to suspend. Consequently, for the general public’s welfare, the stable internet infrastructure is essential, and it is worthy of acquiring more financial support from the government.

On the other hand, wide-spread internet access can help education in some rural areas. Students in a rural area usually have fewer resources on education and equipment, which leads to average lower competitive compared to those in major cities. In this case, internet access will be an antidote for students in remote areas. For example, with internet access, high-quality education materials can introduce to the schools, and teachers can interact with students through video calls. Although many other physical or structural barriers and problems will impede students having the same resources as metropolitans, the internet can surmount those obstacles and bring information and resources to them. Therefore, the government should spend money to improve internet access, and the policy will compensate for the problems; students in the remote area will be beneficial from it.

To sum up, the statement is as persuasive as it stands to some extent. Although we cannot overlook the virtue of the improvement of transportation, internet access is the field that the government should devote more money and resource to maintain a stable connection. After all, the internet has become inextricable from everyone in society.
